WAYNE McGREGOR
WAYNE McGREGOR
Wayne McGregor company was founded in 1992 and became the instrument upon which McGregor evolved his fast and articulate choreographic style. With collaboration at the centre of his practice, McGregor has innovated new work with world class artists including composers Scanner, Jon Hopkins and Ben Frost; visual artists Mark Wallinger and rAndom International; and film-makers Jane and Louise Wilson and Ravi Deepres. Collaboration with science and technology communities has also fuelled choreography mined from radical cognitive research processes. This unique, tenacious questioning between artists and artistic mediums, across the interface of science and art, through the body and mind, has ensured that Wayne McGregor | Random Dance has remained at the forefront of contemporary arts for the past 20 years.
Wayne McGregor company is Resident Company of Sadler's Wells, London. Wayne McGregor is Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet, London. He is Professor of Choreography at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and has an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Plymouth University. For 10 dancers
Wayne McGregor's anatomy-defying choreography and ground-breaking approach across dance, science, film, music, visual art and technology has fuelled a string of truly unique works. FAR is no exception.
Inspired by the
controversial Age of Enlightenment, FAR mines an era that first placed 'a body
in question'. Ten company dancers from Wayne McGregor | Random Dance confront
the distortions, sensuality and feeling of the 18th Century's searing
contemporary sensibility, to a haunting score by the critically-acclaimed
composer Ben Frost.
Staged in a mesmerising environment of shadow and light designed by rAndom
International and Lucy Carter, FAR binds cutting edge design with choreography made from a
radical cognitive research process.

« I always start a work with something that interests me, something that sparks my imagination. That could be drawn from any aspect of living, anything that questions the nature of being a human being. Whatever the stimulus though, it needs to fully engage my curiosity and take me somewhere. » Wayne McGregor
